William Newman
William qualified from the London Hospital Medical College in 1987. He started training in acute general medicine for 4 years before turning to a career in Ophthalmology.
His training in ophthalmology started off in Bournemouth and took him to Addenbrooke’s, Glasgow and the Tennent Institute. He undertook fellowships in Neuro-ophthalmology at both the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Moorefield’s Eye Hospital and in Paediatric Ophthalmology at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.
In 2002 he was appointment Consultant at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, joining the unique team led by Mr Arvind Chandna.
He has a significant teaching and training commitment within the hospital and within the University of Liverpool (Hon. Lecturer). As part of the teaching faculty of ORBIS UK William has been involved in volunteer work taking him regularly to India and Bangladesh.
In 2007 William’s research in child protection resulted in the award of a Masters in Law with Commendation.
William is an active member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has served as College Tutor, on committees for the College and the NHS and is Hon Advisor to governmental groups, and currently is clinical lead at Alder Hey.
